The U.S. South is the home of the IAM: Our mission is to combat corporations that exploit southern workers in the same manner GM and Ford use third-world labor. We will not stand by and witness great American labor subjected to exploitation, nor the loss of dignified paychecks and respect on job sites.

Our Achievements: We played a pivotal role in establishing the 8-hour workday, overtime pay, OSHA standards, sick days, pensions, social security benefits, and much more. Today, we are ready to remind corporate America why they call us “The Fighting Machinists.” For years, unions have been attacked and pushed out of the South by corporations aiming to boost profits and shareholder dividends. We do not want corporations to fail, nor do we want them to pay higher taxes or permit fees. We only want the working men and women to get a fair piece of the pie.

Our Focus in the South: In the U.S. South, we represent workers under the Service Contract Act, aerospace workers, industrial workers of all industries, woodworkers, and even veterinarians. We are focused on expanding into new industries and raising the quality of life for all workers in the South.
